The quality to cost ratio is very good in my opinion. I love minis, and Reaper does a great job making cool minis affordable with the Bones line. The main drawback here is that you need to wait a year and a half for them.įor me: yes, yes, a thousand times yes. The paint sets they're offering are also a great deal. more careful packing for the metal PC figs I use). They're super durable though, and I love that I can toss a big fistfull in a bag to cover any possible encounters I might expect (vs. Bones are a little different than minis you might be used to: Swords and spears are usually bent and need some hot-water treatment to get them straight You don't need to prime them (+) but most spray paints will melt them or not cure (-). The fact that they've separated the steampunk chronoscope stuff into it's own set this time is awesome (I have a bunch of gunslingers and space marines from that 1st KS set that I'll probably never use). I recently found a guy selling the 1st kickstarter core set for the original $100 on ebay, and I'm super happy with the flexibility it's added to my campaign. I am pledging for a ton of the extras this time (way more than I initially expected to). The flexible nature of the material makes your paint jobs hold up pretty well too. The pvc material is immune to plastic cement, so you have to assemble them with super glue. They are a soft pvc material, so you can cut them with an exacto knife to convert them easily. I suggest using a brush-on primer, not spray paint (although an airbrush would probably work.) and after that they paint up normally. Some of the details are a bit too soft on bones, but they are still really good minis. I have been in bones 2, 3 and now 4- never bought the core sets- I usually pick up at least one really good expansion and then some select add-ons.ĭuring Bones 2 and 3 I tried to keep my pledge amount low, but towards the end they add so much cool shit that I went over $150 both times.Īs far as quality of bones sculpts, they are pretty good- less sharp than the high detail metal and plastic minis. I'm more of a warhammer hobbyist, so for me 100+ rando humans is not needed, but monsters and other unique sculpts are still 1/3 the price or even less than games workshop or other retailers. If you play d&d or other rpgs, the variation of models will get you prepared for all your encounters, be it bandits, monsters, townsfolk, even some terrain.
